Woman detained for trying to open cabin door during flight

A female passenger has been detained for trying to open the cabin door of a plane bound for Sanya in south China's Hainan Province.

On Monday, a passenger on flight JD 5180, operated by China's Capital Airlines, said on microblog Sina Weibo that a female passenger on the flight tried to open the cabin door.

The woman then threatened to commit suicide after she and two other passengers were brought under control following a brawl with the cabin crew, according to Weibo user "Rogerstandy."

Capital Airlines confirmed the in-flight chaos on the plane bound for the tropical city of Sanya. The company said a Chinese female passenger "displayed erratic behavior" and wanted to open the cabin door about an hour after the plane took off from the city of Changsha, central China's Hunan Province.

According to the company, crew members dealt with the incident properly and the plane arrived safely in Sanya at 2:20 pm without delay. It said the woman has been put under police detention for further investigation.

The flight takes just over two hours and uses an Airbus A320.
