Philips’ net up 55% on China growth

The Philips logo is seen at the company’s office in Brussels. The Dutch giant said yesterday that its net profit in 2015 rose 55 percent year on year to 645 million euros (US$698 million). The company said China was its biggest growth market, though Chief Executive Frans van Houten could not say if he expected the trend to continue as the economy there slows. He expected modest growth in sales and earnings this year, with improvements mostly coming in the second half. Last week, the United States blocked Philips’ plan to sell an 80 percent stake in its Lumileds lighting components division to Chinese investors for US$2.7 billion. Van Houten expected that the division will now be sold for a smaller amount, some time in the second half of this year....
