Skywalk slots into place

Workers wait as a crane lifts a 40-ton steel beam into place in a skywalk that links landmark high-rises in Lujiazui yesterday morning. The 543-meter overhead passage will enable subway riders from Metro Line 2 to avoid crossing streets of heavy traffic to reach the Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai ifc Mall, Shanghai World Financial Center and other iconic buildings after they get off at the Lujiazui station. The skywalk is being built at a huge cost to the government of the Pudong New Area to rectify a basic urban design flaw in the area that had made it very difficult for pedestrians to move between buildings....
