Unlucky deliveryman loses 60 iPhones worth 400,000 yuan
A driver in northwest China's Gansu Province lost 60 iPhones valued at 400,000 yuan (US$65,360) when he was delivering them for a friend yesterday, China News Service reported today.
The public security bureau, the cellphone vendor and the driver, identified as Zhang Kai, have launched a search for the missing iPhones, the report said.
Zhang said his colleague asked him to pick up the iPhones from Zhongchuan Airport in Lanzhou City. The back door of his van became loose while driving on a bumpy road, the report said.
“I got out of the van and found the smartphones were gone, ” Zhang was cited as saying. He also expressed regret for his carelessness and that he cannot cover the loss because he earns little as a courier company driver.
It’s not clear whether the smartphones fell out the back of the van or if someone stole them, the report said.
The iPhone 6 models are extremely popular in China with many queuing up to buy one since they went on sale on the mainland last Friday.
