Romantic comedies on big screen for Chinese Valentine's Day

The cinema screen during this year's Chinese Valentine's Day, which falls on August 20, will feature a few romantic comedies.

"Cities in Love," a romance film by five young Chinese directors held a premiere today.

The film is about five touching love tales which take place in five romantic cities in the world, including Paris, Prague, Florence, Shanghai and Hokkaido.

Produced by famous film makers Stanley Kwan, Shunji Iwai and Wei Te-sheng, the film also features award-winning cinematographers and music composers to create a stunning artistry.

According to Kwan, it is a special experience for him to collaborate with young actors and directors in this movie. In his opinion, love, a universal theme for human beings is beyond the boundaries of space and language.

Another romantic work, the Chinese remake of the classic 2009 Hollywood film "Birde Wars" will be released on Thursday.

Starring actress Angelababy and Ni Ni, the film centers on a pair of brides-to-be whose friendship is tested when they start a battle for the perfect wedding scheduled on the same day.

Angelababy and Ni Ni will have new interpretation of the roles originally played by Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway.

The film is set to the backdrop of Shanghai. Hong Kong director Tony Chan, known for his comedy romance "Hot Summer Days," wrote the script for the movie. Compared with the original Hollywood film, the story will be more localized with the director's own feelings about life and love.
