Pregnancy at nursing home probe

A nursing home director has been removed from his post following media reports of an alleged sexual assault which resulted in a resident’s pregnancy, according to yesterday’s West China Metropolis Daily.

Police have taken “coercive measures” against a suspect surnamed Guo, 66, another resident, who was alleged to have raped the woman at the government-run nursing home in Sigong, a town in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

Coercive measures can mean summons by force, bail, residential surveillance, detention or arrest.

The woman, surnamed Rong, who had mental health issues, was sent to the nursing home in April last year after the death of her husband. Her daughter lives in another province.

Liu Mingfeng, the nursing home director, told the Southern Metropolis Daily that Rong and Guo had been living as a married couple at the home.

He told the newspaper that the rape allegations were therefore unfounded.
