One injured in SW China earthquake

A woman was injured when a 5.5-magnitude quake struck Jianhe County in southwest China's Guizhou province on Monday morning, local government said.

The woman from Xinliu Village, Nanjia Township was hit by fallen tiles and is receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Cracks have been seen in some houses but there were no reports of house collapses. Some roads were damaged but traffic is moving. Communication and power supply in the county are normal.

Xinliu Primary School, which is close to the epicenter at Nanjia Township, suspended classes.

The quake, with the highest magnitude in Guizhou's recorded history, hit at 9:47 a.m. at 26.6 degrees north latitude and 108.8 degrees east longitude with a depth of 7.0 kilometers, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit Ludian County of neighboring Yunnan Province on Aug. 3, 2014, claiming more than 600 lives and destroying over 80,000 homes.
