Nepal's 8.1-magnitude earthquake felt in Tibet

THE 8.1-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday afternoon was felt in Lhasa and Shigatse City in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, local authorities said.

According to China Earthquake Networks Center, a 8.1-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal at 2:11pm Saturday (Beijing Time).

The epicenter was monitored at 28.2 degrees north latitude and 84.7 degrees east longitude, and the focus of the quake was 20 kilometers deep, according to the center.

The regional capital of Lhasa felt the earthquake. Kyirong and Nyelam counties in Shigatse City felt the quake strongly, according to local authorities.

Houses collapsed in Kyirong County, and communications signals were interrupted in Kyirong and Dram counties on the China-Nepal border, said Hu Hong, head of Kyirong County.

No casualties have been reported so far.
