Movies among China’s plans to mark WWII anniversary
CHINA plans to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in Asia, and its fight against Japan, with movies, concerts, performances and exhibitions, officials said yesterday.
The centerpiece will be a military parade through central Beijing on September 3.
Officials with China’s cultural, publication and archive authorities said 183 war-themed performances, ranging from concerts to traditional operas, puppet shows and acrobatic performances, will be staged nationwide from this month.
Production of some performances began three years ago, Dong Wei, deputy culture minister, told a press conference.
Ten movies, 12 TV series, 20 documentaries and three cartoon series will be aired nationwide, in addition to the publication of about 100 books and electronic publications.
“The goal is to illustrate the Chinese people’s bitter journey toward victory, highlight the anchoring role the Communist Party of China played in the war, and underline the oriental battleground’s contribution to victory in the world anti-fascist war,” said Tian Jin, deputy head of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.
Other activities will include a TV gala to be broadcast on September 3, as well as art and photographic exhibitions.
The exhibitions in more than 150 countries and regions throughout August and September will feature more than 300 pictures showing the oriental battleground’s contribution to victory, Dong said.
Between July 15 and September 15, People’s Liberation Army General Political Department will also stage an exhibition at the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution.
Japan signed its formal surrender on September 2, 1945, and China celebrated its victory the following day.
