Man held after Cartier store gun drama
Beijing police have detained a Malaysian man they say robbed a luxury shop in the capital with a toy gun.
Police said Moi Kit Leng, 38, was charged robbery after he grabbed several watches from a shopping center. The Beijing News identified the retailer as the Cartier store in Beijing’s bustling Wangfujing district.
Police say the suspect was caught within 22 minutes on Monday evening and he told police he wanted to rob the store because he lacked money.
The newspaper quoted the Cartier store manager as saying a man wearing a mask snatched watches worth more than 3 million yuan (US$500,000).
It said the man tried to escape by hijacking a taxi.
