Kekexili eyes heritage status
OFFICIALS in northwest China’s Qinghai Province have started work on an application for world natural heritage status for the Kekexili nature reserve, the local government said yesterday. Also known as Hoh Xil, the 45,000-square-kilometer reserve encompasses China’s largest area of uninhabited land and is home to several endangered species, including Tibetan antelope. Officials said they plan to complete all preparatory work for the application by May 2017.
