HORNETS attacked 57 students and teachers from a middle school in Du’an County in Hechi, in southwest China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, as they were on their way back to school from military training on Friday, the city’s fire department said today.
At 11:20am, the students suddenly began to run and swat at their heads when crossing a bridge. Most of the injured were sent to the hospital and discharged from hospital the same day.
Those stung by hornets were reported to be in stable condition. Firefighters burned the hornet nest, which was half the size of a basketball.
The local fire department has received 89 reports of hornet stings in the past two months and has removed 213 hornet nests.
