Hope for boy with gouged eyes

Guo Bin, the six-year-old boy who had his eyes gouged out in Shanxi Province on August 24, may regain some sight, an eye expert in Shenzhen said, according to Shenzhen Business News.

An ophthalmologist only identified as Fairooz, a native of India, was cited as saying a new procedure could help Guo see silhouettes, the report said.

Guo would have surgery to receive two prosthetic eyes made from coral. If they successfully link with the boy’s eye nerves and blood vessels, Guo may be able see silhouettes, the doctor said.

Fairooz works at Shenzhen C-MER Dennis Lam Eye Hospital, which is run by Dennis Lam, a famous eye doctor in Hong Kong, the report said.

Lam said the operation would be free of charge, according to China News Service.

Guo’s family has agreed to bring him to Shenzhen for the surgery after he recovers from the attack and the suspect is caught, according to Shenzhen Business News.

Guo Zhiping, Guo’s father, told China News Service they had received about 100,000 yuan (US$16,363) in donations from people around the country after the attack.

Police said they are still searching for the woman who is believed to have gouged out Guo Bin’s eyes.

Meanwhile, a two-year-old boy who was abducted on Saturday in Henan Province was rescued safely in Anhui Province yesterday, police said. Two suspects were caught.
