Girl, 7, found dead in well was pushed by jealous sister-in-law

A 7-YEAR-OLD girl was found dead after she was pushed into a well by her sister-in-law on her way to school in Qingfeng County in central China’s Henan Province, Dahe Daily reported.

The girl’s teacher called her mother when the girl didn’t show up for school on the morning of December 24. The girl’s mother called police, who offered a reward of 50,000 yuan (US$8,065) for clues leading to her whereabouts.

The girl’s body was found in a well on February 15, and police said her 23-year-old sister-in-law, surnamed Dou, confessed that she pushed the girl into the well and ran away.

The girl was adopted by the family. Police said Dou thought the girl was a threat to her own position in the family and her inheritance from her parents-in-law.
