Famous actress probed for sheltering drug users in Beijing
A famous Chinese actress is under police investigation for allegedly sheltering drug users, Beijing News reported on Wednesday.
Fu Yiwei, a 51-year-old Heilongjiang Province native, was said to have been taken away by police for offering shelter to drug users in Beijing.
Police took action after being tipped-off from residents in Beijing’s Chaoyang District. Fu won fame as Su Daji, a concubine of a Chinese emperor in a popular TV series Fengshenbang or The Investiture of the Gods in the 1990s.
The TV series featured the life of the last emperor of China’s Shang Dynasty, as well as legends and fairies of that era. Thousands of comments have been posted by netizens on Fu’s personal Weibo account, which was last updated on February 7. Most of them expressed regret over the news.
It is not clear however if Fu herself has been involved in taking drugs.
Authorities across the country have been keen on cracking down on the rising tide of drug offenses involving celebrities. Actor Jaycee Chan, son of Jacky Chan, was sentenced to six months in prison in Beijing for a related crime in 2014.
The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television then said that any celebrity guilty of involvement in drugs, prostitution or gambling will be banned from appearing in TV and film productions.
