Depressed man tries to feed himself to tigers
A MAN is being treated for depression after surviving an attempt to feed himself to a pair of Bengal tigers.
Yang Jinhai, 27, on Sunday climbed a tree and jumped into the big cats’ enclosure at the Chengdu Zoo in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, the Chengdu Business Daily reported yesterday.
As stunned visitors watched on, Yang, who is unemployed and suffers from mental health issues, according to his brother, “performed exaggerated movements” as he spent 20 minutes trying to tempt the tigers to eat him.
“I asked them to bite me and eat my flesh,” Yang said.
“So I did not fight back.”
Yan was scratched by the tigers and dragged along the ground by the scruff of his neck, but the beasts declined to make a meal of him.
Zoo staff tranquilized the tigers so they could rescue Yang, who sustained “16 minor wounds”, the report said.
