China on full alert to super typhoon

THE government has warned coastal China to prepare for the arrival of super typhoon Mujigae, as the alert level has been upgraded to orange, the second highest.
The National Commission for Disaster Reduction and the Ministry of Civil Affairs ordered governments in south and southwest China to activate contingency and early warning plans.
Governments of provincial regions including Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Guizhou and Yunnan should closely track the typhoon and make timely public announcements, the ministry said in statement on Saturday.
Relief supplies should be readied, it said.
Governments should also advise residents to prepare supplies for at least one to three days, evacuate those living in areas that might be severely affected, and warn ships to take shelter in harbors, according to the statement.
Mujigae, the 22nd typhoon of the year, was in the northern part of the South China Sea this morning, and is expected to move northwest at a speed of 20-25 km per hour with strengthening force, according to the National Meteorological Center. It is forecast to make a landfall on Sunday noon on the southern part of the Leizhou Peninsular, Hainan, with a speed of up to 151.2 km per hour at its center.
The typhoon will bring gales to the coastal regions of Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi in the coming two days. Most parts of Hainan and Guangdong will experience torrential rain.
