Chargers alert for airlines

Domestic airlines have been told to enhance security checks following three incidents involving portable chargers.
On May 2, a passenger’s charger burst into flames when he was boarding a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight in China.
Authorities didn’t name the airport but said crew members had to use four extinguishers to put out the blaze.
On May 12, a charger overheated and began to smoke on a plane taxiing at Xiamen airport.
On May 30, smoke was spotted coming from a charger during a flight from Haikou to Shenzhen.
No one was injured in the incidents but the Civil Aviation Administration of China warned of the safety risks. Under current rules, passengers may carry a portable charger of capacity no bigger than 160 wh, or 43,000mAh at 3.7V.
The administration said passengers should be advised not to carry portable chargers on board.
It also said that crew members should undergo special training in how to put out fires which were the result of chargers overheating.
The administration also said that chargers should not be used while aircraft are in flight.
