Boy stabbed to death on walk home
AN 8-year-old boy was stabbed to death yesterday as he walked home from school in east China’s Jiangxi Province.
Two of his classmates were seriously injured in the attack, which was carried by an unnamed attacker, Xinhua news agency reported.
The report said only that the assailant had been released from prison in April. After the attack he fled to a nearby mountain.
The two injured children are in intensive care in hospital, it said. It gave no more details.
Violent crime is rare in China compared with many other countries, but there have been a series of attacks on school children in recent years.
The incidents have led to much soul-searching and calls for better security at schools in a country where many couples have only one child.
In May, a man stabbed eight primary school pupils in a city in central China’s Hubei Province. In December 2012, a man ran into a primary school in central China’s Henan Province and stabbed 23 children.
School guards in China are often not equipped or trained to stop such attacks.
