Big reward offered for leads to ‘cop killers’

POLICE in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province are offering a reward of 100,000 yuan (US$16,250) for information leading to the capture of three men who escaped from a detention center after allegedly killing a police officer.

Wang Damin, Gao Yulun and Li Haiwei fled the center in Yanshou County, near the provincial capital Harbin, about 4:40am yesterday, Xinhua news agency reported.

They are not thought to be carrying guns, the provincial public security bureau was cited as saying.

According to China News Service, a guard at the exit gate became suspicious when he saw three men dressed partially in police uniforms leaving the facility.

One was in a full uniform, while another was in a long-sleeved police coat and the third was in a short-sleeved police shirt, the report said.

When the guard shouted to them, they ignored him and began walking quickly toward a nearby wood. The guard then fired a warning shot into air and the three men began running.

They are accused of killing a police officer at the detention house and of stealing his clothes to use as a disguise. Police are looking for them in the mountainous area near the detention center.
