Monkeying Around In Taxi Leads to Altercation
A monkey almost caused a traffic accident recently in Qingdao city, Shandong Province, when it grabbed the steering wheel of a moving taxicab.
The misbehaving monkey was in the company of the director of a local circus, a man surnamed Wang, prior to a performance in Huangdao District. The pair boarded a taxi after getting lost while taking a leisurely walk through the city.
The monkey was said to have become agitated while riding in the vehicle. At one point, it jumped away from its handler and grabbed the steering wheel, startling the driver surnamed Liu.
When Liu asked them to get out of the taxi. Wang refused to pay the fare. This led to a quarrel on the street between the two men.
Wang explained that the monkey operates a monocycle in the circus and is used to grabbing steering wheels.
Authorities say taxi drivers have the right to refuse service to passengers with pets.
