The incident happened in Nanyang, central China’s Henan Province, where a three-storey residential building caught fire at around 1:20am on that day, Henan Daily reported.

While his wife called police, Wang went back into the fire twice to rescue two people and a teacher stuck in the building.

During the rescue, the fire almost burned Wang's whole body with his skin turned black.  Wang was still running and alerting the residents, "Help! Help! Fire!"

Blood stained footprints of him are still left on the road.

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 1:35am and quickly put out the fire.

A nearby resident surnamed Lu told media that Wang refused to get on the ambulance and kept saying: "There are still a lot of people upstairs. Save them first!"

Thanks to the timely rescue, all others except Wang managed to get out safely without any injury.

Wang was sent to hospital but he suffered exceptionally severe large-area burn, according to the report.

Wang works as a teacher at at a daycare center. His family lived in the countryside and does not have much savings. His treatment costs were initially covered by relatives and friends. Even they couldn't afford further treatment costs.

However, after media reported the incident, the family received a donation of 273,000 yuan by 7pm on May 22.

Netizens were moved by Wang's spirit of sacrificing himself for others and said he is a hero who should be treated free of cost.

One person commented:

Wang is a simple teacher, a warm-hearted father and a considerate husband. He recorded his heroic act with his blood-stained footprints. I hope more people can lend a hand and help the family overcome the difficulties.

According to the report, Wang's life symptoms are stable now and he will have a skin graft next week.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
