DiCaprio’s Newly Launched Weibo Account Is Thronged by Chinese Netizens’ Warm Greetings
Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio opened on Saturday an account on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter, and it was soon inundated with comments from Chinese netizens.
His first post “Hello, China! I’m Leonardo” was tweeted at 4:01pm on Saturday.
By 4pm on Sunday, the post has received over 170,000 comments and been reposted for almost 150,000 times. More than 630,000 Web users liked the post. He also gained 1.1 million followers.
Netizens left comments with various funny emoticons featuring DiCaprio.
DiCaprio managed to win his first Oscar in February this year for his superb performance in “The Revenant.”
Some netizens commented as following:
“I’m afraid Leo’s next post will be ‘Bye China’.”
“I’m quite worried that Leo will probably close down his comment function (on Weibo).”
“Leo seems to have turned into a middle-aged uncle from a teenager without any transition...”
“Does he know that he has become another popular emoticon?”
