Heritage buildings museum celebrates memorable halls, stages and arches

THE construction of Hangzhou Ancient Architecture Museum located in the Xixi National Wetlands Park is under full swing and its first phase has been completed recently.

The museum has a rich collection of old buildings featuring Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, which have been transported from many remote villages in the country.

These include 50 dining halls, living rooms and ancestral halls, as well as more than 500 pieces of old opera stages, pavilions, stone memorial archways and stone sculptures.

The first construction phase covering an area of 2.7 hectares is set to display 30 old buildings moved from other places while the second phase is to showcase the other 20.

In addition, the museum will also exhibit a wide range of folk art works such as old clocks, watches, carving pieces, Chinese ink paintings and many others. Visitors can also have a chance to live in the old houses for a night or two to experience old lifestyles after the second phase is completed.

The Xixi Wetlands were opened as a national park in May 2005 - one of the first wetland parks in China- and cover 3.46 square kilometers of natural wetlands that date back more than 2,000 years ago.

They offer almost untouched wilderness full of rare water birds, such as cranes, clean water and varied flora and fauna.
