Bursting with events: The Italy Pavilion

IT has been almost four months since the opening of the Expo Shanghai and the Italy Pavilion keeps surprising its guests with a rich calendar of events.

Yesterday saw the launch of Sardinia Week at the Italy Pavilion, during which visitors will be entertained with host of activities ranging from tonight's fashion show and musical performances, and tomorrow's "Rose Wedding," to a presentation on Polaris - Sardinia's cutting-edge Science and Technology Park on Friday and a wine tasting on Saturday.

Next month's schedule will focus on architecture and design, featuring the presence of major Asian architects. Some of the events in store include: a seminar on "Bio-habitat: design and management of public spaces;" the opening of the Frette workshop where fine Italian linens will be embroidered by skilled craftsmen; a business seminar on the Italian luxury furniture industry; a conference on eco-efficient construction and much more.

Besides innovation, architecture and design; music and food will of course not be ignored. On September 6, the Italian Trade Commission will organize a seminar on eco-friendly food and gourmet cuisine, focusing on the development of the bio-food market in China. Taking place in the pavilion from September 9, the Emilia Romagna region will present its land of wine and host a classical music concert by the great flutist Andrea Griminelli.

"We have had an exciting array of events over the last four months and these next two - September and October - will be even more rewarding. We want to capture every chance to share the characteristics and features of our country with Chinese visitors and introduce them to aspects of Italy beyond those they already know," explained Beniamino Quintieri, the commissioner general of Italy for World Expo 2010 Shanghai.

"Moving forward, we will continue to arrange events that highlight our strengths in innovation, design and technology; while also taking the opportunity to emphasize the unique traditions of each Italian region."
