3D printers are expanding horizons and changing the way students work

IN the previous school year I decided to buy my own 3D printer, but there is a lot more to 3D printing than I had anticipated.
Learning the nuances of 3D printing was a huge challenge and has taken hours of my free time. I started taking some of my prints to school to show my friends what a 3D printer can really do. I met with Mr Whitaker and showed him some of the best 3D printers available for schools and hobbyists. I am very proud that I helped choose the Ultimaker 3 Extended for our decision and it is an excellent choice for the SE21 area.
The printer is now used for a CCA that takes place every Wednesday, however there are students, such as Anton in Year 13, who printed out parts for his Physics IA!
Lately I have been running some tests and trying to solve any problems that we encounter.
My guess is 3D printing will take a huge role in the future. For example, a Chinese company has created a printer that is able to make life-size houses and the Netherlands have even used a 3D printer to make a 10-meter-long bridge out of metal! This is why I believe 3D printing should be introduced to all students. I hope this message can inspire others to get designing and 3D printing models of their own!
