WHILE going to the movies or karaoke are typical weekend entertainment for many Shanghai residents, there are other options for meeting friends or dating — plus quirky variations on these staples. Here are four choices for a fun time dating or meeting friends.
Q.M Karting Club
Named after Ma Qinghua — the first licensed F1 driver of China — Q.M Karting club is located in the New Energy Theme Park in the Pudong New Area. It features 1.6 kilometers of track — 1.1 kilometers outdoors and 500 meters indoors. The track is 6 meters wide making it qualified to host various national-level races.
The model of karts are among the fastest at this level, say the owners. After a race, drivers can relax in the coffee bar on the second floor.

Channel 1/2 private cinema
Located in the busy Xujiahui commercial area, this venue provides customers with private spaces to enjoy various movies or play video games and board games. It’s a great choice for a date when you can’t get ideal seats in larger cinemas. It also has rooms which can hold about six people to have party.

Chenshan Outdoor Activity Park
The park near Chenshan Botanical Garden in Songjiang District features various outdoor activity facilities. Visitors can take a picnic, go fishing or camp in the Mongolian yurts in the park. Other activities include a laser war game, car racing and horse riding. And afterward you can enjoy a barbecue in the park.

Trailers campsite
As a popular mean of traveling in many foreign countries, trailers are uncommon in China. However, as Shanghai’s first campsite for luxury trailers, it provides tourists with a special experience. Located near Mingzhu Lake, the site features 30 caravans, all of which were made in the United States and are available to rent. They range from 18 to 22 square meters of interior space, with the largest able to accommodate five people. Equipped with water, electricity, air conditioner, a shower, kitchen, bedroom, Wi-Fi connection and television, each trailer gives you the convenience and comfort of home. Each plot also features a small garden area, with room for a barbecue and outdoor sports.
