The US Open finalist broke Gajdosova three times in the third set in Tokyo and won with a crosscourt backhand. She will take on eighth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain in today’s quarterfinals.

Suarez Navarro defeated Daria Gavrilova of Russia 7-6 (5), 6-3.

Also, Garbine Muguruza of Spain caused an upset by seeing off fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia 7-6 (4), 6-4, and Casey Dellacqua of Australia beat Marina Erakovic of New Zealand 6-2, 6-4.

Wang had eliminated Australian top seed Samantha Stosur in the first round and will face Romania’s Monica Niculescu in the semifinals.

Niculescu has yet to drop a set in the tournament, and beat Monica Puig of Puerto Rico 6-2, 6-2 in their quarterfinal.
