Suarez, Neymar fire Barca into final

BARCELONA eased into the Copa del Rey final as it completed a 6-2 aggregate win over Villarreal with a 3-1 win on Wednesday.

Luis Enrique’s men will face Athletic Bilbao in the final for the third time in five years on May 30 after the Basques beat Espanyol 2-0 to progress 3-1 on aggregate.

Neymar had missed a penalty in Barca’s 3-1 first leg win three weeks ago, but made amends after just three minutes when he turned home Lionel Messi’s cross. Jonathan dos Santos gave the host hopes with an equalizer on the night against his old club, but Villarreal’s chances of a famous comeback faded when Tomas Pina was shown a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Neymar.

Luis Suarez slotted home his 11th goal of the season to make it 2-1 before Neymar rounded off the scoring from Xavi’s cross late on.

In Italy, defending champion Napoli drew 1-1 at Lazio in the first leg of their Italian Cup semifinal on Wednesday. Miroslav Klose broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute but the in-form Manolo Gabbiadini leveled for Napoli shortly before the hour mark. Both sides also hit the woodwork in an entertaining match that leaves it all to play for in the second leg in Naples next month.

The winner will face either Juventus or Fiorentina.

Elsewhere, holder Bayern Munich cruised into the quarterfinals of the German Cup by beating second-division Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0. David Alaba and Mario Goetze scored for the winner, which dominated the match against a well-organized Braunschweig.

Elsewhere, Wolfsburg beat ambitious second-division club RB Leipzig 2-0, third-division Arminia Bielefeld upset Werder Bremen 3-1 and Borussia Moenchengladbach won 2-0 at fourth-tier Kickers Offenbach.

In France, Paris Saint-Germain remains on course for a domestic treble after beating Monaco 2-0 to reach the French Cup semifinals. Former Chelsea player David Luiz gave PSG the lead in the third minute, and striker Edinson Cavani then grabbed his 18th goal of the season.
