Oscar given 8-match ban for deliberately kicking ball at opponents

SHANGHAI SIPG’s Brazilian midfielder Oscar was given an eight-match ban and a 40,000 yuan (US$5,854) fine by Chinese Football Association for “unmorally offending other players which sparked a large-scale brawl on pitch,” according to a notice issued by the association on Thursday.

Oscar was in the spotlight after a fiery Chinese Super League clash between SIPG and Guangzhou R&F in Guangdong Province on Sunday, which was drawn 1-1.

The brawl occurred in injury time of the first half when Oscar was angrily confronted by opponents after twice appearing to deliberately kick the ball at R&F players.

The Brazilian was then pushed down by R&F’s Chen Zhizhao while midfielder Li Tixiang allegedly stepped on him. Li and SIPG defender Fu Huan were sent off after the brawl.

According to CFA’s notice, Fu was banned for six CSL matches and received a 30,000 yuan fine for “pushing opponent player too hard in chaotic situation and caused negative influence to China’s professional league.”

R&F’s Chen was given a seven-match ban and 35,000 yuan fine, while Li was banned for five matches and fined 25,000 yuan.

The two clubs were given a public criticism and fined 50,000 yuan each.

The CFA was initially unsure about how to punish the Brazilian, and wrote to FIFA for advice following a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday. The former Chelsea midfielder did not attend the hearing himself.

CSL has 17 rounds of matches to go. Oscar will not be eligible to play in the CSL till August 13, including SIPG’s home match against table leader Guangzhou Evergrande on July 22. He has scored four goals and provided 10 assists in his 21 appearances for SIPG.
