Pedro quits Blues’ tour
CHELSEA playmaker Pedro will leave the club’s preseason tour and return to England after suffering a concussion during its 3-0 win over English Premier League rival Arsenal in Beijing on Saturday.
The Spain international needed medical attention after colliding with Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina in the first half and was replaced by midfielder Jeremie Boga. The 29-year-old was taken to a hospital in the Chinese capital.
“Pedro stayed in hospital overnight in Beijing for observation having sustained a concussion and facial injuries in last night’s game against Arsenal,” the club said in a statement on its website yesterday. “He will now return to London for further review.”
The EPL champion will face German champion Bayern Munich in its next preseason match — part of the International Champions Cup — in Singapore tomorrow.
Meanwhile, two sublime goals from Neymar gave Barcelona a 2-1 win over Juventus in front of an 82,000 crowd at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in the ICC on Saturday.
Neymar, who is rumored to be a transfer target of Paris Saint-Germain, put on a master class alongside Lionel Messi as Barcelona turned the tables on the Italian side which knocked it out of last season’s UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
Neymar opened the scoring in the 15th minute, the Brazilian playing a smart one-two with Paco Alcacer before curling high past goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon into the top right corner.
The Brazilian then doubled the lead 11 minutes later.
Barcelona next plays Manchester United on Wednesday in Landover, Maryland, the same day Juventus takes on PSG in Miami. PSG lost to Tottenham Hotspur 2-4 in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday.
