La Liga chief seeks FIFA ‘reformation’
The Spanish league president has demanded ‘a complete reformation’ of FIFA, calling the current leadership either too stupid or too smart.
“FIFA needs a complete reformation, a nirvana,” LFP president Javier Tebas said in Shanghai yesterday. “Personally, I think the new president should have no connection at all with the old team, whose management of FIFA has been poor in the past few years.
“The old team has two types of people — either too stupid and don’t know anything, or too smart and know everything. It’s pointless for these people to be reelected.
“A person who has the courage and strength to build a cleaner and better organized FIFA should run for the presidency. However, what we see now is candidates representing continents — (Michel) Platini representing Europe, there is also candidate from Asia, etc. That’s what I’m not happy about. It’s not the right direction.”
FIFA announced last month that presidential elections will be held on February 26 next year, leaving Sepp Blatter with seven more months in power. The Swiss veteran resigned four days after his re-election in May amid American and Swiss criminal investigations into corruption at FIFA.
Tebas was in town for a series of promotional activities. He attended a table tennis friendly match between the Spanish national team and a local team at Shanghai Sports School on Monday.
He will be in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, today to sign a five-year La Liga TV broadcasting rights deal in China with PPTV.com, a video and live program provider.
