Hamburg sacks Labbadia
HAMBURGER SV sacked coach Bruno Labbadia yesterday after a poor start to the season with only one point from five matches. Labbadia was fired despite a tenacious performance by his team in Saturday’s 0-1 loss to Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich on a late goal. Hamburg’s director Dietmar Beiersdorfer said the move was necessary to ensure a turnaround after a disappointing start. He said a successor will be named in the next few days, with former Hoffenheim boss Markus Gisdol, 47, the favorite. Labbadia, 50, is the second Bundesliga coach to lose his job this season. Viktor Skripnik was let go by Werder Bremen three matches into the season. Labbadia joined Hamburg 18 months ago and saved the club from relegation in 2015.
