ABU Dhabi Ocean Racing won the fifth leg of the Volvo Ocean Race on Sunday to extend its lead in the overall standings of the nine-month offshore sailing contest.
Abu Dhabi, skippered by Ian Walker, arrived in Itajai, Brazil, just under 19 days after leaving Auckland, New Zealand, for its second stage victory of the race. The win puts it seven points clear of Dongfeng Race Team after the Chinese boat was forced to pull out of the 6,776-nautical mile leg because of a fractured mast.
