Webber gets another win

PORSCHE team’s Mark Webber, alongside Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley, extended their title lead in the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship by clinching a third consecutive victory at a wet Shanghai International Circuit yesterday.

No. 17 Porsche 919 Hybrid started the Shanghai race from pole position after Saturday’s qualifying. Australian Webber, a former Formula One driver, crossed the finish line ahead of the sister No. 18 Porsche, driven by Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb. With the 1-2 finish in the LMP1 class, the team claimed the manufacturers’ title for the season with 264 points.

The LMP2 class was won for the first time by the Signatech Alpine squad of Tom Dillmann, Nelson Panciatici and Paul-Loup Chatin, beating leaders Sam Bird, Julien Canal and Roman Rusinov in the No. 26 G-Drive Racing Ligier-Nissan.

In LMGTE Pro, the No. 91 Porsche Team Manthey 911 RSR took a commanding victory to make Richard Lietz the title favorite heading to Bahrain for the season finale later this month.
