Jagr oldest to net hat-trick

A MONTH shy of 43, Jaromir Jagr is still setting scoring records. Jagr scored three times to pass Gordie Howe and become the oldest NHL player to record a hat-trick, leading New Jersey to a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.

Jagr had his 15th career hat-trick — and first since 2006. Howe was 41 in 1969 when he had a three-goal game. “It’s not easy to score in this league anymore,” the Czech star said. “With the videos, the preparation, the systems they play, plus the goaltenders are so good. I am happy for every opportunity to score goals.”

Jagr has 714 goals and is only three behind Phil Esposito in fifth place all-time in the NHL.

Elsewhere, Nashville eked out a 7-6 win over Los Angeles in overtime, Montreal beat Pittsburgh 4-1 to move into first place in the Eastern Conference, and St Louis ended a five-game road losing streak with a 7-2 win over San Jose.
