City gets 7 stops in new series

SHANGHAI will host seven stops of the 10-leg 2015 Skoda HEROS China Cycling Series, which starts next month.

The new series, which was launched in Shanghai yesterday, will combine several existing cycling competitions, including the Tour Shanghai series and Granfondo races held in neighboring provinces.

Seven of the 10 races will be held in Shanghai in March, April, May, June, August, September and October, featuring Jiading, Nanhui, Songjiang, Fengxian and Qingpu districts.

One leg will be arranged as part of the Yellow Mountain International Mountain Bike Festival to be held in neighboring Anhui Province in March. Two other legs will be Granfondo races to be held at Yellow Mountain in July and at Wuyi Mountain, Fujian Province, in November.

“We hope the upgraded series will attract more high level racers and racing teams and promote the sport in China,” said Lu Pin, chief of Olym Sports, the organizer.

The series will offer 560,000 yuan (US$89,544) in total prize money.
