Wang set for MMA clash

CHINA’S Wang Yawei confirmed his participation at the One: Valor of Champions mixed martial arts championships, where he will take on Indonesia’s Sunoto in a featherweight clash.

The event is set to take place on April 24 in Manila, Philippines, and will be headlined by a One Welterweight World Championship bout between undefeated defending champion Ben Askren of the United States and contender Luis Santos of Brazil.

Wang is a wrestler originally from central China’s Hubei Province. Having trained for Muay Thai in Thailand, he became an MMA fighter. He advanced to the final of the One: Dynasty of Champions Beijing Featherweight Tournament last year.

The April 24 event also features a fighter from Chinese Taipei — Paul Cheng, who will take on Ukraine’s Igor Subora in a heavyweight fight.

One Championship, Asia’s largest MMA organization headquartered in Singapore, plans to host about 10 championships in China this year.
