WNBA No. 1 draft pick Stewart joins Shanghai
CHINESE Women’s Basketball Association league side Shanghai Dahua has signed Breanna Stewart, the No. 1 draft pick in 2016 from the Seattle Storm in the Women’s National Basketball Association, the Chinese club confirmed yesterday.
The 21-year-old Stewart was selected by the Storm with the top draft pick this year. She spent a brilliant four-year collegiate career with the University of Connecticut, where she won four consecutive NCAA championships during 2013-2016 and became the first player to be named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four four times. Stewart helped the United States to the FIBA world championship in 2014, and is in the final 12-player squad for the Rio Olympics. She will give a huge boost to Shanghai, which lost to Beijing Great Wall in 2015-16 WCBA semifinals.
