New Year activities
MORE than 100,000 people took part in various sports activities around the city yesterday to welcome the new year in a healthy way.
The major running activities held on the first day of the new year included the 2016 Run the Track in Jiading District and Jing’an New Year Run in downtown Jing’an District. Prizes included flight tickets to Australia and tickets for the F1 Chinese Grand Prix and World Endurance Championship’s Shanghai leg. The Jing’an New Year Run featured 5,000 runners who flagged off from Jing’an Park at 7am before the 4.2km route ended at Shanghai Railway Station. According to the Shanghai Sports Bureau, 18 sports events and competitions at city or district level took place yesterday, featuring items like highrise climbing, cycling, swimming, etc, and attracting some 100,000 participants.
