Shenhua striker Demba Ba arrives in Shanghai three months after surgery
SHANGHAI Greenland Shenhua striker Demba Ba showed up at the club today, three months after the surgery on his broken left leg.
“The first phase of recovery in Qatar was very successful given the mature facility and staff there,” the Senegal international said at Shenhua’s Kangqiao training camp in the afternoon. “I will work with my recovery team in France next and do my best to return to the pitch as soon as possible.”
Ba then met up with his teammates and head coach Gregorio Manzano at the camp. He will leave Shanghai on Saturday.
The 31-year-old broke his left leg tibia and fibula in the game against Shanghai SIPG on July 17. He underwent a surgery in Shanghai on July 22, during which a 40-centimeter nail was fixed into his tibia by French surgeon Olivier Bringer.
He was the team’s top scorer before he picked up the injury.
Ba flew in today at 5:30am and was welcomed by some 100 fans at the airport early.
It is still unclear when he could resume full training.
“As a professional player, it was painful that I could only lie in bed and watch matches from a distance without being able to do anything. That’s why I have been strictly following the recovery plans while keep thinking what more I can do to speed up the recovery.”
