Hepatitis drug recall as caution

TWO city pharmacies are recalling the Qianglining injection and liquid medication for hepatitis, which were produced by the Qiqihar No. 2 Pharmaceutical Co Ltd in Heilongjiang Province.

Although no problems have been reported, authorities are recalling all Qiqihar products because one was found to be tainted - that was blamed on a supplier.

The Ministry of Health has banned all Qiqihar products and suspended production during a probe. It is investigating another drug, Amillarisin A, which has caused at least five deaths in China.

Amillarisin A has not been found in the city, but officials were tracking down all Qiqihar products.

"State authorities and FDA in all provinces are researching all Qiqihar No. 2's products, even those without reported problems," said Chen Guofang, an SFDA official.

SFDA said only Armillarisin A for gall bladder, gastritis and other problems, manufactured by Qiqihar No. 2, had problems. No problems have been found in other products.

SFDA said yesterday a local pharmaceutical company bought 6,300 packs of Qianglining from Qiqihar No. 2 and sold 334 packs to Shanghai Kaixinren Pharmacy and Bieyanghong Pharmacy. Kaixinren has sold 274 packs and Bieyanghong 19 packs.
