Shanghai, Zhejiang explore ways to scale up cooperation

A government delegation led by Zhejiang Governor Li Qiang visited Shanghai on September 25. Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong guided their tour of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and exchanged views at a seminar on topics such as sharing opportunities brought by Shanghai FTZ, promoting high-tech industries and strengthening mutual cooperation.
Shanghai Vice Mayor Ai Baojun and deputy governors of Zhejiang Province, Liang Liming and Su Jingmiao, joined the seminar. Ai briefed the guests on the development of Shanghai FTZ and the city’s high-tech industries.
Yang thanked Zhejiang for offering long-term support to Shanghai’s social and economic development, noting that Zhejiang has many good experiences and practices that Shanghai can learn from.
He said Shanghai is accelerating the construction of Shanghai FTZ as required by the central government and is carrying out regulatory innovations to accumulate reform experiences that can be copied across the country.
The mayor said Shanghai is pursuing innovation-driven development and has put innovation at the core of industrial upgrade. As the Yangtze Delta becomes more integrated, Shanghai put regional cooperation as a key issue in the city’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020).
The city will implement the national strategy for Yangtze Delta economic integration and strengthen cooperation with Zhejiang for mutual development, he added.
Li Qiang said it is the key strategy of Zhejiang Province to team up Shanghai for Yangtze Delta integration. Bilateral cooperation in recent years has fueled the economic growth of Zhejiang. The province will continue to improve and expand the cooperation and copy successful experiences of the Shanghai FTZ.
The two sides can work together to build infrastructure, merge industries and build commercial platforms, Li said.
Before the seminar, the Zhejiang delegation visited Shanghai Waigaoqiao Logistic Center, Shanghai International Artwork Trading Center and a Shanghai FTZ service center in Waigaoqiao, accompanied by Yang Xiong.
