Shanghai, Jilin officials talk economic cooperation

SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng and Mayor Yang Xiong held talks with a government delegation from Jilin Province yesterday. The delegation, led by Jilin Party Secretary Bayanqolu and Governor Jiang Chaoliang, came to seek closer cooperation with Shanghai.

Han said that under the development strategy of the CPC Central Committee, Shanghai is leading the country in building a well-off society, deepening the reform, promoting the rule of the law, and strengthening the Party leadership with disciplines.

He said Shanghai has benefitted from the experiences of other provinces and municipalities in reform and opening. Jilin is China’s traditional industrial base and plays a key role in revitalizing the economy of northeast China. The province’s good experiences in reform and development are worth learning for Shanghai.

Han noted that Shanghai and Jilin have cooperated closely for a long time. Many cooperative projects have paid off. Shanghai people like high-quality rice and other agricultural products from Jilin. The two places can bring their economic cooperation up a level.

Bayanqolu spoke highly of Shanghai’s development and thanked the city for supporting Jinlin’s redevelopment program. He said his delegation was here to learn about Shanghai’s policies and strategies to develop the Yangtze River Economic Belt and China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone as well as its efforts to restructure the economy, build innovation capabilities, and promote modern service and other emerging industries.

Bayanqolu said the two places should have a long-term cooperation scheme, which will allow Jilin to absorb industries Shanghai has phased out in its economic transformation.

Shanghai officials Yin Hong and Shi Guanghui and Jilin officials Fang Li, Gu Chunli and Jiang Zhiying also joined the meeting at which the two governments signed a cooperation agreement.
