Mayor talks about further cooperation with Indian guests

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Rajnath Singh, minister of Home Affairs in India last week.

Yang said that both China and India have a splendid history and culture and they are the world’s two largest developing countries, which have huge potential of cooperation.

Yang added that many Indian companies develop well in Shanghai and Shanghai became sister city of Mumbai under the witness of both countries’ top leaders. The Shanghai government is keen to further enhance cooperation with India in multiple fields on the basis of sister city cooperation.

Yang continued that in recent years, Shanghai strives to become an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center. The government will further expand the opening of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and become a global innovation center, which all have created new development opportunities for cooperation between Shanghai and India.

Yang pledged that Shanghai is keen to enhance cooperation and share experiences with Mumbai and other Indian cities since it shares challenges such as urban construction and management as well as public security with other mega cities in the world.

Singh said that India and China have a total population of 2.5 billion and promoting the ties of India and China and enhancing their cooperation are essential to the world.

Singh added that Shanghai is a fast-developing dynamic city and has many innovations in urban construction and management. India hoped to learn experiences from Shanghai in fields such as urban planning and transport.

Chen Zhimin, vice minister of Public Security of China, Bai Shaokang, vice mayor of Shanghai and director of Shanghai Public Security Bureau, and Ashok K. Kantha, Ambassador of India to China also joined the meeting.
