Mayor meets SCO Secretary-General to express support
一如既往支持上合组织工作 杨雄会见上合组织秘书长及部分成员国代表

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s secretary-general Rashid Alimov and other representatives from the member countries last week before the 15th anniversary of the organization.

Yang said Shanghai feels so honored that the organization is founded in the city and named after the city.

After 15 years of development, the organization keeps expanding and has played a bigger part in the international affairs. Shanghai has put cooperation with SCO’s member states and their cities as top priority, the mayor noted.

Yang briefed the guests that Shanghai is following the central government’s requirement to construct Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone and strives to become a global innovation center, which provides new opportunities for Shanghai to cooperate with SCO’s member states and their cities.

He pledged that foreign companies including companies from SCO’s member states can use the Shanghai FTZ as a portal to enter the Chinese market and Shanghai government is also encouraging Chinese companies including local companies to invest in SCO’s member states.

He also promised to continue to support the SCO operation and promote friendly cooperation with the organization as before.

Alimov said that Shanghai is the birthplace of SCO and Shanghai has impressed the world and attracted global attention since it adopted Chinese national strategies such as reform and opening with efforts and fruitful achievements.

Alimov added that a modernized Shanghai’s robust development has passed ascending spirit to others and SCO will continue to support its member states to cooperate with Shanghai.

Five member countries’ ambassadors to China and SCO Deputy Secretary-General Wang Kaiwen also joined the meeting.
