Mayor meets Bulgarian prime minister

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Monday.

Yang said that Bulgaria and China have traditional friendship and the relationship between the two countries have entered a new historical period since the two countries set up comprehensive friendly cooperative partnership.

Yang said that Shanghai cherishes the traditional friendship with Bulgaria and is actively preparing to set up sister city ties with Sofia City and the Shanghai government hoped to further improve the friendly ties with Bulgaria in the fields such as economy, trade, science and technology as well as culture through cooperation and exchanges between Shanghai and its sister city-to-be Sofia.

Yang continued that Shanghai has strong industrial foundations and it will accelerate its efforts to become an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center and the construction of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone has greatly facilitated reforms and opening.

Yang added that the Shanghai government hoped to use the Shanghai FTZ as a platform to cooperate more with Central and Eastern European Countries including Bulgaria.

Yang believed that Bulgarian prime minister’s visit will definitely improve the mutual understanding and promote cooperation between Shanghai and Bulgaria.

Borissov said that Bulgaria and China’s friendly ties have become a role model and Bulgaria view China as its most important partner in Asia and hoped that this visit will reach a series of concrete fruits.

Borissov added that he is happy to see Sofia City to ink sister city ties with Shanghai and a fast-developing Bulgaria welcomes China and Shanghai companies to invest.
