Watchdog disciplines 7 frugality offenders

SEVEN more local officials have been reprimanded for violating the Party’s frugality rules, the Party discipline watchdog in Shanghai announced yesterday.

Among them, Xu Dagang, director of the Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry, and Li Liangjun, its vice Party chief and leader of the Party discipline inspection commission, were both given severe disciplinary warnings.

They were chastised for failing to fulfil their duties as leader and supervisor.

An investigation found that the institute repeatedly organized tours using public funds allocated for holding meetings between January 2013 and September 2014.

Over 120 people traveled abroad in 57 groups at the public’s expense for private purposes between January 2013 and July 2015, said the local Party discipline inspection commission in a statement.

The other five were given disciplinary warnings.

Yang Xiaofeng, director and Party chief of the examination center of city and land resources planning, was found to have spent 1,935 yuan (US$235) on August 21, 2014 to entertain 10 people attending a meeting and agreed to give out prepaid shopping cards purchased with public funds between May 2014 and May 2015, according to the statement.

Guo Qin, Party chief of the Shanghai No.2 Light Industrial Vocational School organized trip for a group of teachers and administrators to Gansu and Qinghai Provinces in July 2013. The trip cost more than 220,000 yuan and was paid for with funds from a special scientific research account.

Meanwhile, the investigation also found a collective assets investment management center in Huajing Town of Xuhui District issued 200 yuan to every person attending a training program in November last year and spent 4,958 yuan to host a dinner for them.

Wang Jie, a deputy town mayor of Huagjing who supervised the center, and Hu Yuan, president of the labor union of the center, were reprimanded.

Wan Yuanzhong, Party chief of the Huangshen Village in Anting Town of Jiading District, was also disciplined for organizing travel using public funds.
