Search for British man who left passport in taxi

POLICE and a taxi company are trying to trace a British passenger who left his passport, a boarding card and cash in a cab on Sunday.

Driver Liu Jun told Shanghai Daily that three foreign passengers got into his car at the Shanghai Baolong Hotel on Yixian Road at around 10am and asked to go to the Shanghai JC Mandarin Hotel on Nanjing Road.

When his next passenger got into the cab, Liu discovered that the foreign group had left a jacket under a seat.

In the jacket was a passport, a bag of foreign currency and a boarding card for a flight from London to Shanghai on Saturday.

The passport belongs to Charles John McGirr.

Liu said he drove back to the two hotels to look for the foreign passengers, without success.

After three hours of searching, Liu handed the jacket over to Shanghai Dazhong Taxi Company.

Dazhong said neither of the hotels had details of the group.

It said it did not know how much money was in the bag as it was sealed with only a corner missing.

Dazhong informed police, who will ask immigration authorities to help look for the owner today.

“I’m sure the owner of the jacket is very worried about the missing passport and money,” Liu, said.

“I was worried too but simply couldn’t find him. I just hope now that the jacket can be returned soon.”

Anyone with information should call Dazhong’s hotline 021-66839531 or send an e-mail to metro@shanghaidaily.com.
