Seafood market is turning green
A part of the land occupied by Tongchuan Seafood Market, which is scheduled to close down by the end of October, will be turned into a green space, Putuo District government said yesterday.
The market in Zhenru Town, the largest of its kind in the city, comprises 140,000 square meters and accommodates 2,400 stands.
Local residents have long complained about its environmental impact and security issues relating to the operation, and the decision to shut it down earlier this year was welcomed.
It was previously announced that the development of the site will be integrated with that of Zhenru Town, which will be transformed into a “high-end business center” after planned demolition work is completed.
